Welcome To NYSSSWA

The New York State School Social Workers Association (NYSSSWA) is the only NYS professional association dedicated solely to the visibility and viability of School Social Example Photo Placement Floated RightWorkers and the students and families that we serve. School Social Workers work within the school setting, to strengthen the social/ emotional well being of all students in order to enhance academic and personal goals.

The SSW responsibilities include,
but are not limited to:

  • Assessments
  • Counseling
  • Conflict mediation and resiliency building
  • Alternatives to violence and gangs
  • Attendance monitoring
  • Community referral and liaison work
  • Child abuse reporting
  • School dropout
  • Youth suicide prevention and intervention
  • Crisis intervention
  • Child and family advocacy

  • Representing, enhancing and protecting our profession
  • Advocating for high quality services for student learners
  • Promoting professional development
  • Encouraging school social worker research and facilitating resource sharing
  • Interpreting the role of school social work to the community
  • Disseminating School Social Work information in the state

  • Offering regional problem solving support
